Happy Ayyam-i-Ha!

February 26 to March 1 will be five days of celebration for Mr. Burgher’s family (who are of the Bahai’ faith). During this time, charity work is done, small gifts are given, and love is shared. It is a time of preparation before the 19 days of fasting in the next Bahai’ month.

It is nice to be able to share the traditions of the Bahai faith with our children. They will receive small gifts from Mr. Burgher’s family (we’ll be letting them open one a day), and we will be sorting out areas of our home into “save, share, and use” piles–the share piles will be donated to our favorite charities (The Pittsburgh Tote Bag Project and our local food bank to name two).

Mr. Burgher might even share some of the songs from his childhood with the kids (thanks to Aliyyah for sharing–I caught him singing along as I was writing the post!).

For all of us, here’s a simple prayer that can remind us of the faith of a small child:

He is God! O God, my God! Bestow upon me a pure heart, like unto a pearl.

We wish our Bahai family and friends a Happy Ayyam-i-Ha and hope that this renewing time of the year brings you peace and love.
